Emotions Inside-January 2013 Pencil Drawing
For this project, I again did another person. I think I really like to draw people because I can show emotions and express myself best. So, for this one my pencil drawing was of a girl that is sad, and I chose this photo because I thought that you can really see the emotion in her eyes and on her facial expression, and I thought that was cool and would be fun to draw emotion. So I drew the basic shapes and outline of the picture using the grid technique, then shaded the drawing light to dark. I was really happy with how this one turned out and especially liked the eyes. Overall, I enjoyed doing this project, and it helped me become more skilled at drawing people and different textures.
Simple And Beautiful-January 2013 Pencil Drawing
Doing pencil drawings is probably my favorite thing that I've done in art, so I decided to do another pencil drawing. I like to draw people, because of the eyes, lips, face, and hair--basically everything I guess, so I did a drawing of a girl. I found this picture on the internet and chose it because I thought it was very simple, but all of the details would make it hard to draw. So I did the grids on both the final paper and the photo, and drew out the main shapes and values that I saw. I shaded the dark in the face, lips, and nose, first, then did the less dark, and then the light in the face. For some reason, I waited to do the hair last, probably because it is very detailed, so I put it off a bit. So, once I had finished the face, I plotted out the values in the hair and drew the shapes I saw in the hair. Then I shaded the darkest spots and then shaded the different colors of grey I saw. Finally, I had finished the drawing, and concluded that I still really like to draw people, and do pencil drawings.
Masquerade-January 2013 Pencil Drawing
I really enjoy drawing with just pencil, so I decided that for this project, I would do a pencil drawing. I also really like to draw people because I like the challenge, and I just like to a lot. I wanted to do a drawing with a mask for some reason, so I found an image online that I liked and printed it out. I then made a grid on the picture, and made a grid double the size on a sheet of paper for the project. I drew out the main shapes and values lightly with pencil, and once I had finished the overall shape, I started shading the darkest spots of the photo, then the medium, then the lightest. It was a challenge for me to do the left side of the mask because of the extreme detail that was in it. This drawing was a challenge for me overall, but I did really enjoy doing it, and am pretty happy with the results.
Fall Day-November 2012-January 2013 Watercolor
This painting was probably the third watercolor painting that I've ever done. I had done two last year, but this one was a lot bigger and also more detailed. It took me a long time to do this painting because I'm not really experienced with watercolors, or painting in general. The reason I chose this to paint was because I was inspired by the season I guess and just wanted to try to paint the beauty of autumn. I looked online and after a while of searching, I found a photo that I liked. Then, I drew the main shapes and values that I saw in the picture on a sheet of watercolor paper lightly with pencil. After that, I did a wash over the whole thing with a yellow color, and when that was dry, I kept making the darker spots on the picture darker on my project to plot out the values. Soon I began to add other colors and continued adding more values to darken it. It is a little hard to explain, but that's what I did. Eventually I added smaller details with a dry brush for the leaves, but I never ended up detailing it too much because I wanted the sort of blurry watercolor affect. I worked pretty hard on this watercolor project, and overall I enjoyed it and learned a lot. I hope to do more watercolor paintings in the future to become more experienced at it, and learn more about it.
Kyrstin-October 2012 Scribble Drawing
For this project, I got to do whatever idea I wanted to do. I decided to do a scribble drawing because I like to do them, so then I decided to do a drawing of my sister because she is a role model to me and I really admire her. Also, I did another scribble drawing of her last year and I wanted to see if I have improved since then. So to start out, I found a picture of her, printed it in black and white, and then made a one-inch grid on it. After that, I cut a sheet of paper for the final project with measurements double the picture, and drew a two-inch grid lightly with pencil on that. Next, I lightly drew the outline and shapes of values on my final paper in pencil, and once I had that finished, I began scribbling. For this, project I used an ultra fine point sharpie which I had never done before, so it was a bit of a challenge for me. I scribbled small dark circles or lines for the darker areas on the picture, big light ones for the light areas, and in between for the medium areas. Eventually, I added some final touches to make it look better, and finally finished.
Scribble Drawing-September 2012
This scribble drawing was the second sribble drawing I've ever done. For this drawing, we had to draw a job in the Health and Human Services Academy. I decided to do mine of a veterinarian because my dad is a vet and also because I like animals. To find the picture to draw, I googled veterinarian and chose one of a vet and a dog. I liked it because you could tell what job it is by looking at the picture and I liked the dog. Once I had my photo, I printed it in black and white and made a one-inch grid on it. After that, I cut a sheet of paper for my final project so it would be double the size of my picture, then I drew a two inch grid lightly on the paper. Once that was done i drew the values and shapes that I saw in each square on the final paper with pencil, and erased the grid lines. Then, I started scribbling with pen in the dark areas of the picture, then did the lighter and the medium ones, by using various techniques of scribbling and making them big or small. I did some touching up and then mounted it on black paper and finally the project was finished.
