Fall 2011 Scribble Drawing: Kyrstin
This drawing was my first scribble drawing that I've ever done before. The drawing is of my older sister Kyrstin leaning up against a tree and looking over her shoulder. I chose the image of my sister, because she means a lot to me, and life without her would not be the same. To do this project, first, I found a picture that I wanted to draw of a person, so I found this one. Then, I printed it out so it was an 8 in. X 10 in. photo in black and white, then drew a one inch grid on the picture, using a ruler. After that, I cut a sheet of paper for my final project so it would be double the size of my picture, then I drew a two inch grid very lightly on the paper. I started out by using my pencil very light and drawing on the big sheet what I saw in the photo in the different squares by using a view-finder on the grid of the photo. I drew the shapes of the values on as well. Once i was done drawing the image in pencil, and drawing the different value shapes, I did tiny, dark, scribbles in black pen on the darkest parts of the image. Then, I did bigger and lighter circle scribbles for the lighter parts of the drawing, and for the hair I did line scribbles instead to add a different texture. Finally, I was done scribbling, and the project was complete.
Fall 2011 Color Theory Watercolor Painting-Abstract
This painting is my watercolor color theories painting. There are eight different color theories in this painting. They are analogous colors, warm colors, cool colors, primary colors, secondary colors, complimentary colors, monochromatic colors, and intermediate colors. To do this painting, first I drew dividing lines on my paper into eight sections, one for each theory. I divided it into eight equal triangles, then just lightly drew an abstract design over the top of it. Then, I decided what theories I was going to use for each triangle, and what colors I was going to use. Once that was done with that, I used the wet on dry water color painting technique, and painted all of the shapes the colors I wanted, and eventually I finished. By looking at the painting, I can tell where the eight sections with the different color theories are.
Fall 2011 Landscape Watercolor Painting-Island Paradise
This painting is the first landscape painting I have ever done. It is of part of a body of water with boulders and trees, and plants. To do this painting, I found a picture on the internet of it and printed it out. I then drew the outline of the main shapes in the picture lightly on the water color paper. After I was finished with that, I first used the wash technique on the water, sky, plants, and boulders, in their specified colors. Then I painted more details with the wet on dry technique, and blended colors to give textures, for example the rocks and the plants, and I was finished.
Winter 2011-2012 Current Issues Acrylic Painting-Abuse and Neglect of Dogs
This is also the first acrylic painting I have ever done. The painting is of a boston terrier puppy that looks sad, and the shadows on the dog and in the background are made of text and photos about dog abuse and neglect. I chose this topic because I have five dogs, four of which were all rescue dogs or strays, some having been abused or neglected in their pasts, and I also love dogs, and hate to see them harmed. I chose the boston terrier puppy because two of my dogs are boston terriers, and I really like that breed of dog. To make the painting, I first drew my puppy by looking at a photo from the internet. Then, I cut out pictures of sad-looking dogs from magazines, and text about dog abuse and neglect from the newspaper and magazines. After that, I cut them into shapes and glued them in areas according to how dark or light I wanted the shading in the painting to be. For the paint, I had to use analogous colors, so I could not use black or white, which are the two colors usually on a boston terrier. The analogous colors I used are red, red violet, violet, and blue violet. Because of that, for the black, I mixed up a dark violet by adding black to it, and then painted the dark parts of the dog with that color. For the white, I mixed up a very light violet by adding a little bit of purple paint to some white, and then painted the light parts of the dog that color. Then, I made a pink with white and red for part the bottoms of the dog’s paws that were showing, and painted that as well. I had to water down all of the paint, too, so the text and images could show still, but the text got a little too covered up. Next, I made a red violet color for the ground and painted that, and finally, I made a blue violet color for the wall or sky and painted that as well, which finished the painting.
Winter 2011-2012 Hallway Drawing
This is my drawing of a small hallway at our high school. To do this drawing, first I chose what hallway to draw, and I chose this one, and I used a ruler for it the whole time. Then, I sat at a certain spot, and drew the exit doors first at where I saw them. Once I finished that, I drew a vanishing point where I thought was where it looked like, and drew the lines that made the walls, ceiling, and floor. After that, I drew a door, the lockers, and the other hallway branching off from this one. I also drew little details, as well. Eventually, I had to take a picture of the actual hallway from where I was sitting and draw from that instead, because the class started working on a new project. So, then, I finished drawing the details, and then shaded the light and dark parts and how it looked in the photo, and I was finished.
